Initial Discovery of Jatijajar Cave

Initially in 1802, Jatijajar Cave was under the ground which was turned into agricultural land by Jayamenawi, the owner of the land. One time, the three Jayamenawi were chasing grass, suddenly he fell into a hole that was 24 meters deep. The hole is also 4 meters wide enough. It turned out that the hole was part of a large cave which was later named Jatijajar Cave because at the mouth of the cave there were two teak trees next to each other.

The discovery of this cave was reported to the Ambal Regent who was in power in Kebumen at that time. Then on the order of the Regent of Ambal, the land covering the cave was opened and the scrub covering it was cleared, which led to the discovery of the entrance to the cave.

The most interesting thing in Jatijajar Cave is that there is a river in the cave. The river is an underground river that comes from underground water sources. There are four rivers in Jatijajar Cave namely; Puser Bumi River, Jombor River, Mawar River and Kantil River. The rivers have fresh and clear water. The rivers are not like watering rivers like the ones above in general. The river is in the form of a spring or stagnant water between the rocks in the cave that comes from quite large water sources.
